Hello
I use this HP x360 (product id 7h1s7ua#aba) for school both there and at home, so this laptop moves a lot. This morning I unplugged it from my dock to bring it to school and noticed the backlight was on, yet there was no display. I then tried again in my 7th period but to no avail. As soon as I brought it home, i plugged it into my dock, and the display continued not to work though I could use it through my external monitor. I tried a forced reset, which didn't work, and I can't access the bios from my external display either. I need this to work because I have a big project for my Engineering class soon, and my dad doesn't want to lend me his MSI for the time being because of how "reckless" I am. Please help.

@eweb151, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Let's work on getting your HP Envy x360 back to normal. Here’s a structured approach to troubleshoot the black screen issue you're experiencing:
Check for Accidental "Second Screen Only" Mode
Sometimes, the laptop might be set to output only to an external display.
- Press Windows + P blindly.
- Then press the ↑ (Up arrow once) and hit Enter. This should switch back to “PC screen only.”
- Try this several times in case the output is locked to "Second screen only."
Perform a Real Hard Reset
A hard reset can help clear any temporary issues.
- Power off the laptop.
- Disconnect everything (charger, USB devices, external display).
- Hold the Power button for 30–60 seconds.
- Reconnect only the charger and try booting again.
BIOS/UEFI Blind Reset
You can attempt to reset the BIOS even without the internal screen working:
- Turn off the laptop completely.
- Hold Windows + B (or Windows + V) and then press the Power button for about 2 seconds.
- Continue holding Windows + B/V for another 10–15 seconds.
- Wait to see if the BIOS recovery screen appears on either screen.
Use External Monitor to Access Windows Display Settings
Since your external display works, you can check the display settings:
- Go to Display Settings (Win + I > System > Display).
- Scroll to Multiple Displays.
- Click Detect and ensure your laptop screen is detected and enabled.
- If it shows up, set it as primary and try duplicating the display.
Check Device Manager for Disabled Display Adapter
On your external screen, check if the internal display adapter is disabled:
- Open Device Manager.
- Go to Display adapters and Monitors.
- See if the internal monitor is listed but disabled.
- If so, right-click and enable it.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
