Hi @jshear22,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you are experiencing issues with a dim or dysfunctional backlit keyboard on your HP Chromebook X360 - 14, you can try the following troubleshooting steps to address the problem.
Check the Backlit Keyboard Settings:
- Ensure that the backlit keyboard is enabled in the settings. You can usually adjust the keyboard backlight settings by pressing a designated key on your keyboard (often labeled with a keyboard or lightbulb icon) or by going to your Chromebook's settings menu.
Adjust Keyboard Brightness:
- If your Chromebook has adjustable keyboard backlight brightness, make sure it's not set to the lowest level. You can increase the brightness using the keyboard shortcut or the settings menu.
Restart Your Chromebook:
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve hardware or software issues. Restart your Chromebook to see if the backlit keyboard starts working correctly.
Check for Updates:
- Ensure that your Chrome OS is up to date. Sometimes, software updates include fixes for hardware-related issues.
Inspect for Physical Damage:
- Carefully examine the keyboard for any physical damage or debris that might be blocking the backlight. Clean the keyboard if necessary, but be gentle to avoid causing further damage.
Powerwash (Factory Reset):
- If none of the above steps work, you can consider performing a powerwash or factory reset. This will erase all data on your Chromebook, so make sure to back up your important files before proceeding.
External Keyboard:
- As a temporary workaround, you can connect an external USB keyboard to your Chromebook if you have one. This can be useful if you need to use a keyboard but the built-in one is not functioning correctly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
