HP ENVY x360 15 Convertible PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Trying to configure a laptop that is powerful enough to withstand multitasking while rendering video productions with no latency issues.

The candidates seem to fall under the Envy model: 13", 15", and 17" varieties.

My budget is far less than the specially configured $1500 I devised with the 17" model:

HP Envy 17t-cg000 touch- configured.

Then I configured this:

Base HP ENVY x360 15 Convertible PC; Color Nightfall Black
OS Windows 10 Home 64
Processor and graphics AMD Ryzen™ 5 4500U (2.375 GHz, up to 4.0 GHz, 3 MB L2 cache, 6 cores) + AMD Radeon™ Graphics
Memory 16 GB DDR4-3200 SDRAM (2 x 8 GB)
Display 15.6" diagonal FHD, IPS, micro-edge WLED-backlit, multitouch-enabled, edge-to-edge glass, 400 nitsB (1920 x 1080)
Storage 512 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD

(What is nitsB?)

I need it before Fall semester, would like to see a 60% discounted price. (Wishful thinking.)

You are talking about video production. With that specs, it won't give you any far with multi tasking during rendering time. Please check the following guide

             https://www.techradar.com/au/news/best-laptops-for-video-editing

I actually use an HP Omen with

  • Intel® Core™ i7-8750H (2.2 GHz base frequency, up to 4.1 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 9 MB cache, 6 cores)
  • 32 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM (2 x 16 GB)
  • 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA
    256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD
  • 15.6" diagonal FHD 144 Hz IPS anti-glare micro-edge WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080)
  • 1 Thunderbolt™ 3 (Data Transfer up to 40 Gb/s, DP1.2, HP Sleep and Charge)
  • NVIDIA GTX 1070 video card

for Adobe Premiere Elements 15 and it is just enough for my simple video editing. I won't use it during rendering process. I only use FHD videos.

Thank you, Banhien for your timely response.

I find it funny that no HP made the list of top 10 from the included article.

  1. MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)
  2. MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019)
  3. MSI Creator 17
  4. Dell XPS 15 (2019)
  5. Razer Blade 15 Studio Edition
  6. Acer ConceptD 7
  7. Microsoft Surface Book 3
  8. MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020)
  9. Lenovo ThinkPad P70
  10. MSI GS65 Stealth

What sort of price could I expect were I to purchase such a comparable machine?

What are FHD videos?

@JosOro

HP has many workstation class machines, some are specialized for REAL video editing but their prices are very high, only for people who make video editing for living.

They may only review products for normal people. Prices are vary from country to country. You have to check in your country.

FHD is Full High Definition (1920 x 1080) videos. UHD is for Ultra High Definition (3840 x 2160) or 4K videos.

Once again, thank you, Banhien

You are my GoTo tech guru.

I did some more searching and configuring. It appears this model with these specs will be sufficient for my "hobby" of video production; it may also serve in the long run when my prospects broaden.

OMEN HP 15 Laptop PC

Intel® Core™ i7-10750H (2.6 GHz, up to 5 GHz, 12 MB L3 cache, 6 cores) + NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2060 (6 GB)
32 GB DDR4-2933 SDRAM (2 x 16 GB)
15.6" diagonal FHD, 300 Hz, IPS, anti-glare, micro-edge, WLED-backlit, 300 nits (1920 x 1080)
1 TB 7200 rpm SATA; 512 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD

I don't necessarily plan to use it much online; I have this HP Notebook - 15-db0007cy for those purposes; so, I didn't boost it's networking.

Still, the $1910 price tag is high. If HP truly wished to practice their generosity, they'd grant me 60% off this price and I would purchase this model today.

Just saying.

Ok, here we almost 2 months later and I'm still looking for a workhorse machine to do professional level video editing.

I configured this:

  • Windows 10 Home 64
  • Intel® Core™ i7-10750H (2.6 GHz, up to 5 GHz, 12 MB L3 cache, 6 cores) + NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 2070 Super™ with Max-Q design (8 GB)
  • 32 GB DDR4-2933 SDRAM (2 x 16 GB)
  • 15.6" diagonal FHD, 300 Hz, IPS, anti-glare, micro-edge, WLED-backlit, 300 nits (1920 x 1080)
  • 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA; 512 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD
  •
  • HP 3 year w/Accidental Damage
  • Office Software Trial
  • Security Software Trial
  • 6-cell, 69 Wh Li-ion polymer
  • No DVD or CD Drive
  • Full-size island-style dragon red legend 1-zone lighting red backlit keyboard with numeric keypad and 26-Key Rollover
  • HP Wide Vision HD Camera with integrated dual array digital microphone
  • Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX 201 (2x2) and Bluetooth® 5 combo (Supporting Gigabit file transfer speeds)
  •
  • OMEN by HP 15 Laptop PC $2279.98

But, it's price tag is several hundred dollars above what I configured above. Is there such a difference in the specs to account for this?

Also, I configured:

  • Shadow Black with Ghost White
  • Windows 10 Home 64
  • Intel® Core™ i7-10750H (2.6 GHz, up to 5 GHz, 12 MB L3 cache, 6 cores) + NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2060 w/Max-Q design (6 GB)
  • 16 GB DDR4-2933 SDRAM (2 x 8 GB)
  • 16.1" diagonal FHD, 144 Hz, IPS, anti-glare, micro-edge, WLED-backlit, 300 nits (1920 x 1080)
  • 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA; 256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD
  •
  • HP 3 year w/Accidental Damage
  • Office Software Trial
  • Security Software Trial
  • 3-cell, 52.5 Wh Lithium-ion prismatic Battery
  • No DVD or CD Drive
  • Full-size, ghost white backlit, shadow black keyboard with numeric keypad
  • HP TrueVision 720p HD camera with integrated dual array digital microphone
  • Realtek Wi-Fi 5 (2x2) and Bluetooth® 5 Combo (MU-MIMO supported)
  •
  •
  • HP Pavilion Gaming 16 Laptop PC $1677.98

I am not a professional video producer, I do however hope to be able to get there. I need a machine that will suit by burgeoning needs. I am a student and will apply for THAT discount. I also will seek further discounts when dealing with a sales representative. I do not believe in paying full retail on products that have been sitting around for months while newer technology waits to unleash itself on the public with exorbitant price markups.

Please advise.

Thank you for your attention.
