Microsoft Windows 11

Hi there,

I have an hp laptop 15s-eq2xxx with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700U. The screen has been flickering for 2-3 days. I then installed the latest graphics driver from hp and it got a little better. Since today, however, the screen remains completely black when the laptop is switched on. On an external HDMI monitor, however, the picture is displayed perfectly. When booting into the BIOS/UEFI, the screen also remains black. I have already downloaded and installed the latest graphics drivers and bios from the hp site, but without success. Do any of you have an idea what I could do?
Thank you very much

Hi @Grynthal,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for the detailed description — based on what you've shared, your HP 15s-eq2xxx with a Ryzen 7 5700U is showing signs of internal display failure. Here's a breakdown of what's happening and what you can do:

1. Check Brightness Key (just in case)

  • Hold Fn and press the brightness keys (F2/F3 or F5/F6, depending on your keyboard).
  • This is a long shot, but worth checking if brightness is somehow turned all the way down.

2. Perform a Hard Reset (Power Reset)

This can resolve odd black screen behaviours:

  1. Turn off the laptop completely.
  2. Unplug it from power.
  3. Hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the charger and power it on.

3. BIOS External Display Option (Advanced, Optional)

Sometimes laptops are set to use an external display by default (though rare). While the internal screen is black:

  • Boot into BIOS (press Esc or F10 on boot) using the external HDMI monitor.
  • Check if there’s a setting like "Video Output", "Display Device Priority", or similar.
  • Set it back to "Auto" or "Internal."

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
