Pavilion 15-r011dx
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello everyone, I have a HP Pavilion 15-r011dx running Windows 8.1 that I haven't used for a few months. When I turned it on back yesterday, I noticed a weird area of black pixels on the right top of the screen. At first, it just only 5 or 6 small pixels, but after several hours, more pixels nearby started lighting weakly and turned black. Up to now, it have been making a really significant stripe on the display (see the photo below).

I wonder to know what these black pixels really are and if it can be fixed, how can I fix these? I just put this laptop in a shelf without any other things and I haven't made any damage to it. Thanks a lot!

This is a clear indication of a failing screen -- and the only "fix" is a replacement -- which can be quite expensive.

We are not able, or permitted, to provide any repair estimates or equipment prices.

For this information, you would need to contact an HP Repair or Service Center.

Since you live outside the U.S., here is a link to HP Service Centers, by Country/Region: https://support.hp.com/us-en/service-center

If that link does not provide you sufficient information, then use the main HP link:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true

I've found those links to be unreliable if you're using Win10 and the new Edge Browser; so if you are, you need to use something else, like FireFox.

Good Luck

Hello, thank you for your response. Now I know what is happening on my screen now. I think a replacement now is not necessary. It doesn't annoy me a lot. Maybe in the future I will replace the screen if the thing goes worse.

Hey -- I understand --as I have the same issue with the primary monitor on my desktop.  But, the pixel death has stayed essentially the same for six months now, so I am in no hurry to replace it.  If yours does not progress much, it may be months before it gets bad enough that you have to replace the screen.

Hello, it's been a week since I asked for my problem. Black pixels are going to make a completely small line on my screen, but surprisingly the old ones have started going away (some of them are normal again). So I wonder to know if it is still a failing screen or it is another problem. Thank you.
