Hi @Jarvis_18,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop is displaying a blank screen with a moving cursor, it could indicate several potential issues. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.

  • Hard Reset: Sometimes, a hard reset can resolve minor hardware and software issues. To perform a hard reset, disconnect the laptop from any power source, remove the battery (if removable), and hold down the power button for about 15-20 seconds. Then reinsert the battery (if applicable) and plug the laptop back into power. Turn it on and see if the issue is resolved.
  • External Display: Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV using an HDMI or VGA cable. If the external display shows your laptop screen correctly, the problem may be with the laptop's internal display or its connection.
  • BIOS Settings: If you can't see anything on the screen but you hear the laptop powering on, try accessing the BIOS settings. Restart the laptop and repeatedly press the appropriate key (usually Del, F2, or Esc) to enter the BIOS. If you can see the BIOS screen, it suggests that the issue might be related to the operating system or drivers.
  • Boot in Safe Mode: Restart your laptop and repeatedly press the F8 key (or Shift + F8) while it's booting to enter Safe Mode. If the laptop boots successfully in Safe Mode, it indicates that a third-party software or driver might be causing the issue.
  • Recovery Options: If you have a Windows installation disc or a recovery drive, you can try booting from it and accessing repair options. This can help repair any corrupted system files or startup issues.
  • System Restore: If you have recently installed new software or drivers, or made any significant changes to your system settings, performing a System Restore to a point before the issue started may resolve the problem.
  • Hardware Inspection: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there's a hardware problem with your laptop's display, graphics card, or other components.

Remember to back up your important data regularly, especially if you suspect there might be hardware issues with your laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
