Envy Touch Laptop
Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit)
I used my HP Envy last night then just closed the lid to let it sleep like I always do. Today I opened the lid and I can hear the fan and the keyboard has its usual lights (including the power button) but the screen is completely blank. I've tried reclosing and opening the lid along with the power button (which doesn't do anything right now). I've aslo unplugged and replugged in the cable. How can I fix it?

Please try performing a 'Hard Reset'.

To perform a hard reset on a computer with a removable battery, use the following steps:
  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
  3. Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.
  4. Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
  5. Remove the battery from the battery compartment.
  6. Press and hold down the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.
  7. Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook computer, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
  8. Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
  9. If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.

I have done both of the suggested options for getting my screen turned on. Neither one has worked.

I also unsetted my hard drive and then put it back in. Any other suggestions?

Please give me a few more details about your issue.

What Windows version are you using. Windows 7, 8, 10,?

What is the model number of your system?

What exactly happens when you power on? Do you see the HP logo? Does Windows start to load then goes blank? Any other helpful details you can think of.

Hello, and thank you for responding.

I'm using Windows 7.

When I turn on my system the screen stays black/blank. The drive starts up for a few seconds. Then goes quiet for a couple of minutes and then starts up again. All this goes on and the screen is black.

The Cap lock light keeps blinking as does the Numbers lock light.

I have a Pavilion Dv4 -1220us.

I have gone through the options you have listed regarding to taking battery out, unplugging AC adapter, pushing on button for 15 and 40 seconds with no power source. Blank screen still there.

Thank you,

Gailstrail
