I've discovered a compatibility issue with the latest AMD Video Driver 19.10.18.01.

Firstly my laptop was fully up to date with the exception of the AMD Video Driver and AMD Chipset Driver but I also had Hyper-V enabled.  If I tried to install the AMD Chipset Driver it wouldn't complete successfully as the command window would indicate zero's for each task, seemingly unable to set certain variables so HP Support Assistant app would keep reoffering the driver again and again.  If I installed the latest AMD Video Driver as offered in HP Support Assistant I would end up with a boot loop where I would need to use the advanced startup options to return to a restore point.

Having recently restored the laptop to an out of the box experience from the recovery drive image and then reupdating everything, I was able to install both the AMD Chipset Driver & AMD Video Driver to the latest versions offered by HP Support Assistant app.  However, as soon as I tried to enable Hyper-V I ended up back in a boot loop situation that I had to use a restore point to get back to not having Hyper-V enabled and being able to boot to Windows.

Therefore what I had to do in order to enable Hyper-V was to remove the latest AMD Video Driver.

e.g.

Right Click Start Menu > Apps and Features > Click 'AMD Software' and then the 'Modify' button > You're then presented with the AMD uninstallation app and I chose 'Clean Uninstall' > Restart system when prompted.

Upon reboot I then installed the previous AMD Video Drivers and Control Panel (18.50.30 Rev.F) - SP95541

Rebooted again after the above AMD install completed.

I was then able to enable Hyper-V successfully.

Therefore I believe there is some conflict with the latest AMD Video Drivers and Control Panel (19.10.18.01 Rev.F) - SP98166.  My advice is only install this and AMD Chipset Driver (5.12.0.38) - SP91337 if you don't intend to enable Hyper-V.

HP Support Assistant app has now reverted to not only advising me of the above AMD Video Drivers and Control Panel but also the AMD Chipset Driver 5.12.0.38 - SP91337.  Something about the AMD Video Drivers uninstall or reinstall has ended up removing the previously installed AMD Chipset Driver.

Whilst rolling the AMD Video Drivers back to the previous version solves the coexistence issue between Hyper-V and AMD Video Drivers it would be nice to have a better resolution that used the latest drivers without this conflict occurring.

Using up to date Windows 10 Pro 1903 - OS Build 18362.267.

So glad I found this thread!  I have an HP Probook 455 G6 that would fail to boot every single Wednesday!  I then found in Support Assistant that everyday it would fail, the AMD Video Driver and Control Panel V 19.10.18.01 attempted to install the day prior.   I too, can only get my laptop to boot if I use system restore from the recovery menu.   I am going to change Support Assistant to manual updates only for now to make sure this patch does not continue trying to install.

Hi,

This has now been resolved, at least on my model since a new bios (HP Firmware Pack (Q81)) was released recently (version 01.08.00 Rev.A / sp98624.exe) for supported notebook models with a Q81 family ROM.

https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-elitebook-745-g5-notebook-pc/18819802/...

The release notes of this new bios state the following fixes:

- Fixes an issue where a bootable USB storage device on an externaldock connected to the system is not detected in the F9 bootmenu.
- Fixes an issue that occurs when the update schedule is set todaily/weekly/monthly where a BIOS update via the F10 setupinterface fails and the system displays the message, Internalerror.
- Fixes an issue where the SystemDiags.log file cannot be createdin the FTP server after Remote HP PC Hardware Diagnostics areexecuted.
- Fixes an issue that occurs when a system has the BIOS passwordenabled in the F10 setup and Power-on Authentication is enabled inHPCSM. After the BIOS Administrator at Power-on-Authenticationoption is subsequently deselected in the F10 setup interface, thesystem displays the message, Authentication Failed.
- Fixes an issue where the display of the TPM Firmware Updateinterface is cut off during the update process.
- Fixes an issue which causes the system to power on slower thanexpected when an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070/2080 Graphics card isinstalled on the system.
- Fixes an issue where the BIOS administrator account cannot behidden on the Power-On Authentication screen.
- Fixes an issue on a system connected to an HP Elite USB-C Dockwhere the system does not wake when the power button on the dock ispressed when the lid on the system is closed.
- Fixes an issue where certain devices add support for the HP USB-CDock G5.
- Fixes an issue on a system connected to an HP E223d/E243d DockingMonitor with a USB Type-C cable where the system battery does notcharge and the monitor does not display properly.

NOTE: After updating the BIOS to v01.08.01, be sure to upgrade theAMD graphics drivers to v19.10.18.01 or later (available inSP98166). - Updates the Cypress PD firmware to v7.9.
- Adds the Native OS Firmware Update Service feature to the F10setup interface to enable and disable firmware updates using theWindow Update service.
- Adds an option in the F10 setup to download and install BIOSupdates automatically without prompts.
- Updates the AMD silicon reference code to 1.1.0.9.

NOTE: After updating the BIOS to v01.08.01, be sure to upgrade theAMD graphics drivers to v19.10.18.01 or later (available inSP98166).

After I updated the bios I then actually updated the "AMD Chipset Driver" which the HP support assistant was flagging as requiring upgrade (this used the latest dated one but this is listed on "HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads" website as (5.12.0.38 Rev.A / sp91337.exe)).  There is however a Rev.B version of this chipset driver too but strangely dated prior to the earlier revision (5.12.0.38 Rev.B / sp87640.exe).

Then as per the instructions for the latest bios mentioned above, I was able to also follow the HP Support Assistant recommended "AMD Video Drivers and Control Panel" update to 19.10.18.01 Rev.F / sp98166.exe.  I also see however from the "HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads" website that an even newer version is available (19.10.24.04 Rev.F / sp99137.exe) but for some reason HP Support Assistant on my laptop isn't offering this to me at the moment.  You may be able to go straight to this newer version without bothering with 19.10.18.01 Rev.F but for now the earlier one is what I've used and found it to solve the boot loop issue I was originally having.

I can now finally have Hyper-V installed again and Ubuntu installed in a VM as should always have been the case but this is the first time a linux VM has worked with this laptop, the last time it was working was short lived due to the issue with the graphics driver.  Finally nice working drivers for this model and the first time I could actually recommend this to anyone.
