Bought a 1x2 splitter for my 1 HDMI port laptop and only duplicates the screen not make a dual.

I bought a 1x2 HDMI splitter for my laptop since I only have 1 HDMI port. I want to make a dual monitor setup were I can play games and watch videos at the same time. But it only duplicates the screen. I want it to run like a second display were I full screen on 1 and the other at the same time. Not were I full screen and it runs through both.

Because BOTH monitors come out from ONLY one port, the splitter won't help therefore you ONLY get same (ie duplicated screens).
