HP Laptop 17t-cn300
Microsoft Windows 11

Brand new HP Laptop 17t-cn300 display is dull with faded colors. I've spent hours going through processes suggested on HP support and Youtube. I've explored color profile downloads but finding none that are compatible with Windows 11 Pro. Display edges are not sharp, text is faded out and color is dull. Not a bit comparable to my old cheaper Asus display. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Good morning - I have gone through each step, several times in fact, and the display is still dull, lacking vividness and sharpness. This is straight out of the box, very disappointing.

Hi @Cindy_Irish, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop's display!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP Laptop 17t-cn300's display is not showing its full potential in terms of color vibrancy and clarity, which can be disappointing. Here’s a detailed troubleshooting guide to help improve your display quality and get it looking sharper and more vibrant:

Check Brightness and Power Settings

Ensure that the brightness levels are appropriately set, and your power settings aren't affecting display quality.

  1. Adjust Brightness:
    • Press Win + A to open the Action Center and adjust the brightness slider.
    • Alternatively, go to Settings > System > Display and adjust the brightness slider.
  2. Power Settings:
    • Press Win + X and select Power Options.
    • Ensure that the power plan is set to Balanced or High Performance, rather than Power Saver which can reduce display brightness and color quality.

Update Graphics Drivers

Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can cause display issues. To update your graphics drivers:

  1. Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Display Adapters section.
  3. Right-click on your graphics card (Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA) and select Update Driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software and follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. Restart your laptop to apply the changes.

Calibrate Your Display

Windows 11 offers a built-in display calibration tool that can help enhance colors and sharpness.

  1. Press Win + S, type "Calibrate display" and select Calibrate display color from the search results.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to adjust gamma, brightness, contrast, and color balance.

Adjust Color Profile

Sometimes, a color profile mismatch can cause dull or faded colors. Windows 11 allows you to manually adjust or change the display color profile:

  1. Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
  2. Scroll down and click on Advanced display.
  3. Under Color settings, click Color management.
  4. In the Color Management window, click on the Advanced tab.
  5. Click Calibrate display to start the calibration process.

If your laptop supports color profiles from the manufacturer or if you find compatible profiles from the internet, you can add them here.

Check for Windows Updates

Sometimes, display issues are fixed through regular system updates, including driver updates for your GPU or other display components.

  1. Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  2. Click on Check for updates and install any available updates.

Check for HP Software Updates

There could be updates from HP that optimize the display or fix any issues that may exist with your particular model.

  1. Go to HP Support Assistant (search for it in the Start menu).
  2. Click on Updates and check for any available software or driver updates.

Adjust the Display Resolution and Scaling

Ensure that your display's resolution and scaling settings are optimal for the screen size and your preferences.

Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
Under Display resolution, ensure that it is set to the recommended resolution.
Adjust the Scaling to 100% or your preferred setting to ensure text and images aren't blurry or pixelated.

Check the Display Connection

If your laptop is connected to any external monitors, ensure that the connection is secure and that the monitor settings are optimized.

Disconnect any external displays to ensure that the issue is specific to the laptop's built-in display.

Perform a System Reset or Restore (if needed)

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, you may want to perform a system restore to a point before the display issue began or consider a factory reset if you feel comfortable doing so.

System Restore: Press Win + S, search for System Restore, and follow the steps to restore your laptop to an earlier point when the display worked fine.

Factory Reset: Go to Settings > System > Recovery and select Reset PC. This will restore your system to factory settings but be sure to back up your data first.

Let me know if any of these step's help improve the display, or if the issue persists! I'd be happy to guide you further.

This issue is not resolved. I tried the support phone number several times during the week, obviously at the wrong times. Now I cannot find the support number that I was given. Please provide it again, as well as the days/hours the support is available. Thank you!
