Hello,
since my laptop was new I had this issue of brightness buttons (Fn F3-F4, specifically those 2) not working. This means I cant adjust brightness with my keyboard, although other buttons like mute or volume work just fine. after a lot of research it appeared I needed the Intel Management Engine Components driver. it solved the problem until the next windows update, and now it's back again. I looked online and did the following:
1. uninstall and reinstall the Intel Management Engine Components Driver.
2. go to device manager and roll back my display's adapter driver
3. try to look for update to the display's adapter's driver
4. install Intel Chipset Installation Utility driver
all of the above did not work. hopefully there is a working solution I haven't tried yet. I'll appreciate any help.

Pleae download and install the following software for brightness hotkeys:
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81501-82000/sp81790.exe
or
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp85001-85500/sp85423.exe
