@chingthung, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the brightness button not working!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand how frustrating it can be when you can’t adjust your laptop’s brightness. No worries—I’m here to help! Let's try a few troubleshooting steps to fix this.

Check the Brightness Keys – Ensure that you're using the correct function keys (usually F2/F3 or F7/F8 with the Fn key). If they’re not responding, try pressing Fn + Esc to see if the function key lock is enabled.

Adjust Brightness from Settings

  • Go to Settings > System > Display and try adjusting the brightness slider.
  • If the slider is missing or greyed out, let me know.

Update Display Drivers

  • Open Device Manager (Press Win + X, then select Device Manager).
  • Expand Display Adapters, right-click your graphics driver (Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA), and select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.

Check Power Options

  • Open Control Panel > Power Options and make sure the brightness adjustment is available under your current power plan.

Reinstall Display Driver

  • If updating the driver doesn’t help, try uninstalling it from Device Manager and then restarting your laptop to let Windows reinstall it automatically.

A Few Quick Questions to Understand Better:

🔹 Which HP laptop model are you using? (You can find this by typing msinfo32 in the Windows search bar and pressing Enter.)
🔹 When did you first notice this issue? Was it after a Windows update or any software installation?
🔹 Does the brightness adjust in Safe Mode (you can check by restarting and pressing F8 or Shift + Restart to enter Safe Mode)?
🔹 Do you see the brightness slider in Display Settings, or is it missing?

Let me know how it goes! Happy to help further. 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
