Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Pavillion 15.

This has happened before and the computer obviously fixed itself. But not this time.

The brightness control is gone. I have done everything after intensive(!) googling. Updated driver from both MS W10 and HP. My external monitor neither works when I plug the cord into the HDMI port.

The screen os now half dark and it is difficult to work with the computer.

Hi @Plisk1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

I see that you are facing display issues with your HP Pavilion 15 Notebook.

This could be a hardware issue with the unit and may need repair.

I suggest that you contact HP Service Center in your location from this weblink: https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/service-center
Note: Select your country from the dropdown,  enter the city or postal code, select the product, change the radius, and click on search to locate the nearest HP Service center near your location.

Hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

But what is your intuitive reaction? Back screen on laptop, hardboot, after that no brightness and no HDMI. I get the feeling this is about a graphics card or display card of some kind? I f so, I may as well go to the store and get a new?

Hi @Plisk1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

There are a few steps you can take to try to resolve the issues with your HP Pavilion 15.

For the brightness control issue.

  1. Try pressing the brightness function key on your keyboard (usually located on the F keys). Sometimes the brightness control can be accidentally turned off or disabled by hitting the wrong key combination.
  2. Go to the Windows Display settings and check if the brightness control is set to automatic or manual. If it's set to manual, try changing it to automatic to see if that fixes the issue.
  3. Update your graphics driver. Sometimes an outdated or corrupted graphics driver can cause issues with the brightness control. You can download the latest driver from the HP website or using the Device Manager in Windows.
  4. If none of these steps work, you may have a hardware issue with your display or graphics card. In this case, you may need to contact HP support or take your laptop to a repair shop for further diagnosis and repair.

For the HDMI issue.

  1. Check the HDMI cable and make sure it's properly connected to both your laptop and the external display device. Try unplugging and re-plugging the cable to see if that fixes the issue.
  2. Check the external display device to make sure it's turned on and set to the correct input mode for the HDMI connection.
  3. Update your graphics driver. Like with the brightness issue, an outdated or corrupted graphics driver can cause issues with HDMI connectivity.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
