Broken hinge caused screen to break

It looks like the right side hinge became loose, and when my daughter went to close the computer, it broke the screen on the bottom right side.  I am very frustrated.  It looks like this wouldn't even be covered if it was under warranty.  I purchased through Costco, and they say they will not fix any computer that has physical damage even though this is clearly a product defect.

I have posted the same issue with pictures and I am waiting to see if there is any response from HP.  I will keep you posted if I hear anything.  This is obviously a design flaw in their product.
