Envy 13 Laptop
Microsoft Windows 11

I purchased an HP Envy 13 Laptop directly from HP in early 2021. The laptop does not get heavy use, and I do not open and close it very often. About two months ago, I noticed a crunching sound as I opened it, and I noticed that the hinge was separating on one side. Shortly thereafter, the laptop was misaligned when closed, and when I opened it, the screen started to separate from the cover. I am afraid to open and close it now, for fear of breaking the screen. It therefore can no longer function as a portable computer, because I cannot open and close the screen. This seems like some sort of design or manufacturing flaw and is surprising in a rather expensive machine built by HP.

Has anyone else had this problem? Are there known solutions?

I called customer service. They quoted me $402 plus shipping for the repair. This is ridiculous. This problem is caused by a clear design defect. As I look at previous posts from other members, I see that HP has know about this problem for years. I spent top dollar on this laptop because I trusted the HP name. I'm not so sure any more. I started a case; I hope the result will be different.
