HP ENVY Laptop PC 14-eb0000 (363Q8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

The built in webcam in my HP Envy is not discoverable. I've followed the various suggestions provided by both HP and Windows (running the Windows troubleshooter, ensured the camera is not turned off, reset the device, checked the privacy permissions etc.) and with no luck. The camera is also not showing in Device Manager, it's like it doesn't even exist.

Are there any other options I can try?

Hi @MarkBNM

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already tried a lot of the common troubleshooting steps for your built-in camera not being recognized on your HP Envy laptop, but since it's not showing in Device Manager at all, there may be deeper issues at play. Let's go over a few more steps that could help resolve the issue.

1. Check for a Disabled Camera in BIOS

Sometimes, the webcam can be disabled at the hardware level in the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System). Here’s how to check and enable it:

  1. Restart your laptop.
  2. As the laptop starts up, press the Esc key repeatedly to enter the Startup Menu.
  3. Press F10 to enter the BIOS Setup.
  4. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the System Configuration tab.
  5. Look for a setting related to the Camera or Webcam (it may be listed as Integrated Camera).
  6. If it is disabled, use the keyboard to enable it.
  7. Press F10 to save and exit the BIOS.
  8. Restart your laptop and check if the camera is now recognized.

2. Check for Disabled Devices in Device Manager

Since your camera isn’t showing at all in Device Manager, it’s possible that the camera is not being detected by Windows at the driver level. However, it may be disabled or hidden.

To check:

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. In Device Manager, click on the View tab and select Show hidden devices.
  3. Check under Imaging Devices or Sound, video and game controllers for any entry related to your camera.
  4. If you see your camera, right-click on it and choose Enable.
  5. If it's listed but not working, you can also try Uninstalling the device and then restarting your PC to let Windows reinstall the driver automatically.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
