Solved!

Built-in TrueVision camera won't focus properly

The built-in webcam does not focus on my face. It only focuses on the background.

I have tested with Zoom and Skype.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver multiple times.

I have unsuccessfully looked in the OS for some kind of dashboard to control the webcam. (like Autofocus on/off).

Any  idea what I should do next?

Thanks!

Built-in TrueVision camera won't focus properly

Hello Raj,

Model #: Y4P51AV (Spectre X360 13")

OS: Windows 10 Home -64bit Rev - Version 1903 (Latest)
Note: I had the focus problem with the previous version of Windows 10. I upgraded to the latest version hoping it would fix it, but it did not.

Webcam: HP TrueVision FHD RGB-IR

Webcam driver: Sun Plus IT, Rev 3.6.8.8, Date: 3/29/2018

Note: According to the HP Support Assistant, I am up to date on all drivers.

Try to uninstall the camera driver from the device manager.

1. Press Windows+X to open the menu, and choose Device Manager on it.

2. In the device manager, expand the category "Imaging devices".

3. Under this category, right-click on your camera driver and click on Uninstall.

4. You may be required to confirm the uninstallation. Check the box next to "Delete the driver software for this device" and click OK button.

5. Restart the computer.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

Solved!

Built-in TrueVision camera won't focus properly

Hello,

uninstalling and reinstalling rolled back the driver to rev 3.6.8.7 (10/27/2017), but did not fix the problem.

The books behind me, about 170cm/6ft from the webcam,  are in focus, but my face, 60cm/2ft from the webcam, is not.

And it does not matter if I move closer or further from the webcam: The auto-focus is off and stuck on 6ft.

@Philippejj1,

I understand that you have webcam issues with your laptop.

Please try updating BIOS and check if that helps.

Update BIOS using this link.

Refer this article to troubleshoot webcam issues.

Let me know the outcome!

Built-in TrueVision camera won't focus properly

Hello Jeet,

I already had the latest BIOS (F49) but I reinstalled it anyway - and it started to work!

I consider the call closed.

Thanks!
