HP Compaq Presario CQ42
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all I have an HP Compaq Presario CQ42 320-CA. I installed Windows 7 64-bit on it and then upgraded it to Windows 10 64-bit. There is a built-in camera that is not and, from what I can recall, have never been recognized. Actually that's not entirely true. I got the laptop used from a family member, and at the time they had Windows 10 as well and I remember the camera worked. For example, I could make video calls using Skype. I then replaced Windows with Linux for 2 years, but have recently gone back to Windows for work. After upgrading to Windows 10 (again), I downloaded all the software drivers from HP's site and installed them. There was no driver for the camera. What can I do? I'm not sure why the camera worked in the past when I first got the laptop. Is there a BIOS setting I need to enable to have Windows recognize the camera? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

With the recent upgrades from Microsoft servers? Theres a high possibility that the driver for your camera is no longer supported. Other options is to download 3rd party app that downloads drivers. Just need to look for better ones.

But on the drivers download page on HP's site there were no drivers even for Windows 7. Normally does a built-in camera not take separate drivers but it's included in the BIOS drivers? I don't know if it makes a difference in what could be going on, but I do recall when I reinstalled Windows 7 (before I upgraded to Windows 10), I installed all the drivers from HP's site but still the camera didn't work. So basically it only worked that one time when I first got the laptop, and it hasn't worked since then.

Hi,

Well that was way before. You are using a unit that is already tagged as OBSOLETE HP Compaq Presario CQ42 320-CA Therefore the support for the drivers is already ended. As what I said in my previous post. Look for applications that downloads drivers. Thats your best option.

ichi
