Hey, can someone tell me how to fix this issue. I had my laptop since 2021, and the camera isn't working. I used it well during pandemic but after 2023, it stopped. My laptop is a HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14m-dw1xxx

It says it cannot find my camera, but my camera is built in my device, I have tried updating and still no use.  I found the camera on Microsoft store and updated, when in control panel for troubleshooting and still nothing someone please help😣

1. Check if the Camera is Enabled

Some laptops have a physical switch or keyboard shortcut to enable/disable the camera.

On your HP Pavilion x360, look for a camera icon on the function keys (e.g., F10 or another key with a camera symbol). Press Fn + [Camera Key] to toggle the camera on.

Also, check if there’s a physical switch or slider on the side of the laptop that disables the camera.

2. Run the Camera Troubleshooter

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.

Select Camera and run the troubleshooter. Follow the on-screen instructions.

3. Check Camera Privacy Settings

Windows has privacy settings that can block apps from accessing the camera.

Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.

Ensure that Camera access is turned on and that the apps you’re using (e.g., Zoom, Teams, or the Camera app) have permission to access the camera.

4. Update or Reinstall Camera Drivers

Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause the camera to stop working.

Steps to update drivers:

Press Win + X and select Device Manager.

Expand the Cameras or Imaging Devices section.

Right-click your camera (e.g., Integrated Camera) and select Update Driver.

Choose Search automatically for drivers.

If updating doesn’t work, try uninstalling the driver:

In Device Manager, right-click the camera and select Uninstall Device. Before uninstalling, first copy the driver which exist in C:Windows/System32/DriverStore/FileRepository directory. To find out the name of the camera driver info, look in Device Manager, Click properties, in the details tab select info name.

Restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.

5. Check for Windows Updates

Sometimes, a Windows update can fix camera issues.

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click Check for updates. Install any pending updates and restart your laptop.

6. Reinstall the Camera App

If the issue is with the Camera app itself, try reinstalling it:

Open Microsoft Store.

Search for Camera.

Uninstall the app (if installed) and then reinstall it.

7. Check for BIOS Updates

A BIOS update can sometimes resolve hardware-related issues.

Visit the HP Support website, enter your laptop model (HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14m-dw1xxx), and check for BIOS updates. Follow the instructions carefully to update the BIOS.

8. Test the Camera in Another App

Try using the camera in a different app (e.g., Zoom, Skype, or a third-party camera app) to see if the issue is specific to the Camera app.

9. Reset or Restore Your Laptop

If none of the above steps work, consider resetting your laptop to factory settings:

Go to Settings > System > Recovery and select Reset this PC. Choose Keep my files to avoid data loss.

10. Contact HP Support

If the camera still doesn’t work after trying all the above steps, there may be a hardware issue (e.g., a disconnected or faulty camera module).

Contact HP Support or visit an authorized service center for assistance.
