Microsoft Windows 11

My camera shut off.  I don't have any F camera icons.  I went to Start - Device Mgr - Camera.  It said "Device working properly".  It isn't. working on Zoom.  I didn't pay $1500 for this.  Suggestions?

Hi @None1966

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how disappointing it feels when the camera refuses to work, especially after checking Device Manager and seeing it listed as “working properly.” Thank you for the steps you’ve already tried.

Let’s go through a clear set of actions together to restore your camera functionality on Windows 11.

Step 1: Check Camera Privacy Settings

  • Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
  • Ensure that Camera access is turned on.
  • Scroll down and confirm that Zoom has permission to use the camera.

Step 2: Test Camera in the HP App

  • Install and open the HP App on your Windows device.
  • Add your PC and use the camera test feature to confirm if the camera is detected outside Zoom.

Guide: Install and Use the HP App

Step 3: Update Camera Driver

  • In Device Manager, right‑click your camera under Cameras.
  • Select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
  • Restart the laptop after the update completes.

Step 4: Run Windows Camera App

  • Open the Camera app from the Start menu.
  • If the app shows video, the hardware is fine and the issue is specific to Zoom.
  • If the app does not show video, continue with driver updates or BIOS checks.

Step 5: Check Zoom Settings

  • Open Zoom and go to Settings > Video.
  • Ensure the correct camera is selected from the dropdown list.
  • If no camera appears, restart Zoom after updating drivers.

Step 6: BIOS Update (if needed)

Step 7: Power Reset

  • Shut down the laptop completely.
  • Disconnect the power adapter and any external devices.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect and power on again.

By following these steps, you can confirm whether the issue lies with Windows privacy settings, drivers, or Zoom itself. Starting with privacy permissions and testing in the Camera app usually gives the quickest answer.
