I've purchased a new HP Pavilion 15-cs1855nd and noticed that the camera does only show a black square in Skype.
Skype recognizes the camera as a "HP Wide Vision HD Camera".
I installed all Windows updates and updated the camera driver from the Device Manager (but that update gave a message that the driver was up to date).
On the HP Support site I found a Windows 10 driver for my notebook called "Driver voor HP IR Camera (Windows 10 v1803/v1809)". This is an executable that extract some files to the folder c:\swsetup. The only executable among the extracted files is a file named HPSetup.exe, but when I execute this program (as administrator) nothing happens.
HELP.... how can I make this camera work...!?

Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Community,
Have you tried to check if the issue persists even with other applications such as Facebook Messenger.
Did you try to uninstall and reinstall the webcam drivers:
You may follow the steps suggested in this support document for - HP PCs - Webcam Troubleshooting (Windows 10, 😎
Alternatively, you can try to follow this link: HP Notebook PCs - Testing a Webcam Using YouCam (Windows 10, 8, 7)

Hello Jeet_Singh,
Thanks for your reply.
I indeed uninstalled the webcam drivers and reinstalled them in the Windows Device Manager.
I also completely removed the device there and let Windows detect new hardware. No result whatsoever.
The steps in HP PCs - Webcam Troubleshooting (Windows 10, 😎 aren't very useful. I've checked everything mentioned there, also without any result.
Youcam requires an account and I don't want to do that for now.
But what about the driver from HP Support I mentioned, that is extracted to a folder C:\swsetup\SP91648 and where (after extraction) a file HPSetup.exe exists that - when executed - nothing does at all? This is not correct I assume?

Answering to your question, IR driver is used only for Windows hello feature and it does not have to do with the regular webcam function.
Just wanted to know if you have tried the Facebook messenger as suggested in the previous to see if that works.
If it works, then this could be an issue with the software or driver related.
If it does not work then this could be a possible hardware issue. In this scenario, I would personally suggest you contact our HP support team for further assistance.
HP support team can be reached on www.hp.com/contacthp
I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

I don't use Facebook, so I haven't installed any Facebook software.
I can install this, but (just like with Youcam) I don't want to create any account there.
Is there really not a simple tool (besides Youcam and Facebook, where an account is needed) that I can install to test the camera? Currently I have only Skype and there the notebook camera gives a black square (not an error).
Thanks.

I recommend you uninstall the webcam driver from device manager and then restart the computer and check.
Here is how it is done.
- Start Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Device Manager.
- Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
- On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
- When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.
NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.
You may also update the Bios and Chipset drivers on your PC either from our HP support website, using this link or download it using HP support assistant.
To download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.
Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.
If the issue still persists, I would suggest you contact our HP support team for further assistance.
