Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
- Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
- Have you made any hardware/software changes?
- Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?
- What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824

I have the same issue.
When the camera icon appeared, the computer began operating very slowly. After multiple restarts, the camera icon went away, but I lost WIFI on the machine. Restarting did no good. I let the computer drain of battery. When I started it after that, the WIFI was back up, but the camera icon returned.
Tried troubleshooting, downloaded the latest Bitdefender and found no threats.
Device manager showed no "Imaging Device." It did show a camera device, the only option being to remove the driver. I did, following the advice on this site. But now the camera device is gone from Device Manager.
Also, the computer no longer detects that it has a camera.
I have an HP Envy.

Hello @quarm5
Welcome to HP Community
I have gone through your Post and would like to help
- Try reinstalling the Webcam driver from Device Manager
- Select the Start button, type Device Manager, and select it from the list of results.
- Look for Camera or Imaging Device and expand the List
- Look for Camera driver then right-click it, and select Update Driver.
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If these steps don't work, try reinstalling the driver: Open Device Manager, right-click the Camera driver and select Uninstall. Restart your PC and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.
