@maureenpg, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand you're seeing a dark shadow in the lower part of the image when using the camera on your HP ENVY x360 15.6" 2-in-1 Laptop (15-ew0000 series) in apps like Microsoft Teams or the Camera app.

This issue could be caused by a few factors, such as physical obstruction, software settings, or driver-related problems. Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot and resolve it:

Check for Physical Obstruction

  • Ensure the camera lens is clean and unobstructed.
  • Use a soft microfiber cloth to gently clean the lens.
  • Make sure there’s no privacy shutter partially covering the lens (some models have a manual shutter or switch).

Test in HP Camera App

  • Open the Camera app in Windows.
  • Observe if the shadow appears there too.
  • If yes, it’s likely a hardware or driver issue. If not, it may be app-specific.

Update the Camera Driver

  • Go to Device ManagerImaging Devices → Right-click on the camera → Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  • Alternatively, download the latest driver from HP: Official HP® Support

Check HP Support Assistant

Reset Camera Settings

  • Open the Camera app → Click the gear icon ⚙️ → Scroll down and click Reset settings.

Test in Safe Mode or Clean Boot

  • Boot into Safe Mode or perform a Clean Boot to rule out third-party software interference.
  • If the shadow disappears, a background app may be affecting the camera feed.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
