Please add me to the list of many who are having issues with the built in camera on my HP laptop.
The camera worked yesterday while using Zoom and today the camera is not found by Zoom or Skype or Camera. It also does not show up in device manager. No changes or updates have been performed to windows or any other app in the last 24hrs. I just turned the laptop off yesterday, turned it on today, and no camera.
I just spent 2 hours trying power resets, default BIOS, cryptic powershell admin commands and other ideas that i found on this forum with no luck. The laptop is just over 1 year old and hardly used. It must be a software issue or the camera was somehow turned off and it's not turning back on. I tried uninstalling Zoom and reinstalled it, no help.
Why are so many people having camera issues on HP laptops? A very untimely issued when we're in the middle of a pandemic.
Please help!!

@PaulBon Due to the current global COVID-19 situation, we're seeing an influx of customers coming in for support and we appreciate your patience.
That said, Check the anti-virus program settings & ensure it isn't blocking the camera and the same should resolve the issue, if this doesn't help, try the below steps:
here's a few steps to resolve the issue, start with checking for the webcam kill switch (if available on your model, if not: click here & follow the steps) and ensure its turned on,
That said, If your webcam has stopped working after installing a new update, you should uninstall the update and roll back to the older version. You will have to open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on Roll Back Driver button > select Yes on the next window. After that, you need to restart your PC to check whether it is working.
If that doesn't work or there were no updates before the issue occurred, you might need to uninstall the webcam driver.
To do this, open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on Uninstall Device button.
Restart your computer and then open Device Manager again and click on Action > Scan for hardware changes. (this would automatically reinstall the best drivers for it)
Once done, I suggest you install all the latest pending Windows updates as below and check if it helps.
- Go to “settings” and click on “update and security”.
- Under tab “Windows update”, click on the icon “check for updates”.
- Then once you find the pending updates install it and check.
