while using Zoom with the camera on, it suddenly turned off and when I turn it on again, it will automatically turn off after some time. I also used the Camera app to test it, and upon opening the application it will open the camera briefly and then turn off repeatedly.

upon showing this it will go back to the previous pageupon showing this it will go back to the previous page

I also tried Google Meet but it won't even let me open the camera it just shows the  camera symbol with a yellow exclamation point on it.

 

Upon opening the camera, the light near it turns on but it is slightly flickering then after some time, it will turn off. I haven't seen any error code or anything. (Where should it appear?)

 

I tried restarting the laptop and uninstalling the camera driver in the Device Manager but it still did not work.

 

I recently encountered a problem where there is no wifi connection due to the faulty driver but I fixed it already by downloading a network adapter. Did it cause this trouble? I last used the camera around 2nd-3rd week of May, the wifi driver problem occurred on June 6, and today (July 7) was the first time I used it after the 2nd-3rd week of May.

Let's walk through a comprehensive set of steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.

Confirm Camera Privacy Settings

Sometimes, Windows privacy settings can block camera access.

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera
  • Ensure Camera access and Let apps access your camera are both turned ON
  • Scroll down and ensure Zoom, Camera, and Google Meet (via browser) have access

Check Device Manager for Camera Status

You mentioned uninstalling the driver, but let’s double-check:

  • Press Win + X > Device Manager
  • Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras
  • Right-click your camera > Properties
    • Check Device status under the General tab
    • If it says anything other than “This device is working properly,” note the error code (if any)

Reinstall Camera Driver from HP

Uninstalling from Device Manager may not fully restore the correct driver. Use HP official drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support Page - Official HP® Support
  • Download and install the Camera Driver (usually under “Driver – Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices”)
  • Restart your laptop after installation

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

To rule out hardware failure:

  • Turn off the laptop
  • Press Esc repeatedly while turning it on > Press F2 for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
  • Select Component Tests > Webcam Test
  • Follow the on-screen instructions

If the test fails or the camera flickers during the test, it’s likely a hardware issue.

BIOS and Chipset Update

Outdated firmware can cause device instability:

  • On the same HP Drivers Page, download and install:
    • BIOS Update
    • Chipset Driver
  • Restart your system

Check for Conflicting Apps

Some third-party apps (like OBS, virtual camera software, or security apps) can interfere with the camera.

  • Try a Clean Boot:
    • Press Win + R, type msconfig, hit Enter
    • Under Services, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all
    • Go to Startup tab > Open Task Manager > Disable all startup items
    • Restart and test the camera

Regarding the Flickering LED

The flickering LED suggests the camera is trying to initialize but failing, often a sign of:

  • Power delivery issues
  • Driver conflicts
  • Hardware failure

Did the Wi-Fi Driver Issue Cause This?

Unlikely, unless the wrong chipset or conflicting driver was installed. However, if you installed a generic driver from a third-party site, it might have affected the camera controller. Reinstalling the correct chipset and camera drivers from HP should help.
