HP Envy x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-es1000 (8Y9G6AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

The camera on my HP ENVY 360 doesn't work even though the camera app shows active. There is no camera cover, I've updated the drivers, restarted and tried to uninstall & reinstall.

It has worked in other apps in the past. When I open the camera app, I get this image.

Any other suggestions?

Hi @BonnieS1956

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for providing the details and the screenshot. I understand the camera is detected by Windows and the Camera app opens, but the image remains blocked with the "camera might be covered" message on your HP ENVY x360 14-es1000 even after driver reinstallation and restarts.

Based on the screenshot and the troubleshooting already completed, please try the following recommended checks:

Check the Camera Privacy Settings

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
  • Ensure "Camera access" is On.
  • Ensure "Let apps access your camera" is On.
  • Verify the Camera app is allowed.

Verify the Camera in Device Manager

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Cameras.
  • Right-click the HP camera device and select Properties.
  • Under the General tab, confirm the device status shows "This device is working properly."

Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics

  • Turn off the notebook.
  • Power it on and repeatedly tap Esc.
  • Press F2 for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the Component Tests > Camera test (if available).
  • Note any error code displayed.

Check BIOS Defaults

  • Power on the notebook and tap F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.
  • Press F9 to load default settings.
  • Save and exit using F10.
  • Test the camera again in Windows.

Test in HP Camera-Compatible Applications

  • Open the camera in Microsoft Teams or another Windows application.
  • If the camera works there but not in the Camera app, run: Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > Camera > Advanced Options > Repair, then Reset.

If the camera test in HP Hardware Diagnostics reports an error code, please share the exact code so we can guide you further.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Regards,
