Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-e1000 (53G39AV)

So since yesterday, I think my HP VICTUS LAPTOP inbuilt camera got photo sensitive. In high light conditions the camera would shut off on it's own. And today when I tried to open the camera. It was missing from Device Manager.

Hi @Ssp67, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Victus 16-e1000's inbuilt camera is experiencing hardware or driver-related issues. Since it's disappearing from Device Manager, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take:

Check if the Camera is Disabled in BIOS

  1. Restart your laptop and press F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS.
  2. Look for an option related to the Integrated Camera (it may be under Security or Advanced settings).
  3. Ensure it is enabled, save changes, and restart.

Show Hidden Devices in Device Manager

  1. Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
  2. Click View > Show hidden devices.
  3. Expand Imaging devices, Cameras, or Universal Serial Bus controllers to check if your camera appears.
  4. If it appears grayed out, right-click and select Enable.

Scan for Hardware Changes

  1. In Device Manager, click Action > Scan for hardware changes.
  2. If the camera reappears, right-click it and select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.

Manually Reinstall the Camera Driver

  1. Go to HP's support page and download the latest camera driver for your model.
  2. If unavailable, use the Windows generic driver:
    • Open Device Manager > Imaging Devices (or Cameras).
    • Uninstall the existing driver.
    • Restart the laptop to let Windows reinstall the default driver.

Check for Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Click Check for updates and install any available drivers.

Try a Hard Reset

  1. Power off your laptop.
  2. Disconnect the charger and any external devices.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  4. Turn it back on and check if the camera is back.

Test the Camera in Safe Mode

  • Restart your laptop in Safe Mode (Shift + Restart > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart > Press 4 for Safe Mode).
  • Open the Camera app (Win + S > search Camera) and see if it works.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
