HP Envy x 360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everyone,

I just bought the HP Envy x 360 computer two weeks ago. Unfortunately, it's been acting pretty glitchy, and one of the main issues with it is that the icon notification for the camera kill switch will flash onto my screen for no reason, often staying there for hours at a time. It will only go away-- momentarily, that is-- if I restart the computer.  This notification icon will appear in the middle of the screen even if I haven't even touched the button for the kill switch. It doesn't matter if the button is turned on or off, the screen icon will simply flash on regardless.

I've attached a photo of it. Any advice? I'm thinking about sending this computer back if it keeps up. Capture.PNG

Welcome to the HP support community.

You might need to uninstall the webcam driver.

To do this, open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on the Uninstall Device button.

Restart your computer and then open Device Manager again and click on Action > Scan for hardware changes. (this would automatically reinstall the best drivers for it)

Once done, I suggest you install all the latest pending Windows updates as below and check if it helps.

  1. Go to “settings” and click on “update and security”.
  2. Under tab “Windows update”, click on the icon “check for updates”.
  3. Then once you find the pending updates install it and check.

(By the end of this article all the issues should be resolved)

I hope that helps.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.
