I am seeing the camera on/off notification (the camera icon on screen) toggle between On and off although I am not changing the camera on/off switch. This is very annoying as this blocks the screen. Please note that my camera is working fine otherwise. 

How do I resolve this please?

 

System details:

System Model HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15m-dr1xxx

OS Name Microsoft Windows 11 Home

If the camera on/off notification on your HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15 keeps toggling without you physically touching the camera switch, it could be due to a software or hardware issue. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem.

 

  • Restart your computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches. Shut down your computer completely, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Update your drivers: Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause issues with hardware functionality. Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15, specifically for the camera or any related components.
  • Check camera privacy settings: Windows 10 has privacy settings that control the access and functionality of your camera. Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app, then go to Privacy > Camera. Make sure the "Allow apps to access your camera" option is enabled. Also, check the list of apps and ensure that the specific app you're using isn't blocked from accessing the camera.
  • Scan for malware: Malicious software can sometimes interfere with hardware operations. Run a thorough scan of your computer using a reliable antivirus program to check for any potential malware infections.

Thanks! Here is the feedback on the solutions provided.

1. Restart the computer: Tried it and that did not help.

2. Update your drivers: I went to HP site to find the drivers but for this laptop it is only pulling drivers for Windows 10, while I am on Windows 11 (via upgrade). Chosing Windows 10 in the dropdown for OS, I get the following message while HP site searches for drivers "Detection was successful but you don’t need any new drivers at this time".

3. Check camera privacy settings: Checked and "Allow apps to access your camera"  is turned on.

4. Scan for malware: Tried it but no favorable result

5. Reset camera settings: Tried it but no favorable result

 

Please help as this is such an annoying problem. If not resolved, I will have to discard a 3 yr old HP laptop and that is not expected. I have loved HP laptops but need your help pls to get out this situation.
