My HP Envy 17t-n100 notebook has integrated Intel 530 graphics and an nVidia GeForce GTX 950M graphics chip. I just purchased a Dell P2715Q 3840x2160 monitor and connected it to the notebook's HDMI port.
In Display Settings->Display Adapter Properties->List All Modes, I can select a maximum of 30 Hz refresh rate at 3840x2160. 60 Hz is not available. I thought the nVidia GeForce GTX 950M graphics chip could drive 3840x2160 at 60 Hz so I did a live chat with nVidia. They said that the Intel 530 controller always drives the display and that the nVidia 950M chip only assists with rendering for high performance apps like games. Apparently the Intel 530 cannot support 3840x2160 at 60 Hz so I can only use the new display at 30 Hz.
The next resolution down in monitors is 2560x1440, also called WQHD. However when I look at Display Settings->Display Adapter Properties->List All Modes, this resolution cannot be selected at all, at any refresh rate.
Is there any way that the HP Envy 17t-n100 notebook can drive:
1. 3840x2160 60 Hz
2. 2560x1440 60 Hz
If not, it looks 1920x1080 is the highest standard resolution it can display at 60 Hz.
Thanks!

I see that the Maintenance manual on p.3 states:
"HDMI version 1.4 supporting 1920 ×1200 @ 60 Hz"
This is not a list of supported modes nor is it correct. I clicked on Settings->System->Display->Display Adapter Properties->List All Modes and saw a long list of supported resolutions. However, this list varies depending on what display is attached to the HDMI port. With no display attached, the highest resolution is 1920x1080 60 Hz which is used to drive the laptop's integrated LCD. When I attached a 4K monitor, many more resolutions appeared in this list going up to 3840x2160 30 Hz. 2560x1440 was not in the list at any refresh rate. However, I went to Best Buy today and connected to a 2560x1440 display there and then that resolution at 60 Hz appeared in the List All Modes list. All 3840x2160 modes were gone.
I would like to find a list of all supported resolutions. I'm not sure it's published anywhere.
Thanks.
