I have an HP 15-dw0054wm laptop. I am trying to figure out whether it is possible to have 3 distinct displays with this laptop (the laptop screen plus 2 monitors).
I have the Intel UHD Graphics 620 graphics card. According to Intel's website, the graphics card can handle 2 additional monitors.
For external ports, I have 1 HDMI, 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Data transfer only); 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C (data transfer only).
I was hoping to buy something like this to connect a monitor using the USB 3.1 Type-C port:

However, since my 3 USB ports say "data transfer only", does that mean there is no way for me to set up use one of them to set up a second monitor?

Yes, you are right. Connecting the monitor directly will not work as the USB C port doesn't support the display. However, when you use these converters they usually “read” the analog signals being sent into them from your computer or other devices, then create signals in digital which can be understood by your HDMI monitor. This process happens seamlessly, without any other input from you, other than connecting the device.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to connect 2 external monitors to the computer.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
The USB C port on the computer is data transfer only and will not support the display. However, you can connect a USB C docking station, but you need to try a few to find the one which works with the computer.
I hope that answers your question and you have a great day!

So in other words, I could plug a docking station like what is linked below into my USB C port, and then I could use two of the several different monitor ports (both HDMI and VGA) to connect to monitors? And this will work, even though my USB-C port is data only?

Ugg. Unfortunately this didn't work. I bought the docking station in the above link. The station works for things like my wireless mouse, so I know it is operating correctly. But if I plug in my monitor to the docking station, I get the message, "Display connection might be limited", and nothing shows up on the second monitor.
Unfortunately it looks like the "data only" really does mean the USB-C port will not work with a monitor 😞
