HP Envy 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-cw0000 (761Z0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Yesterday, I  purchased a 17.3" Envy and I was told that I didn't need to purchase another stylus, as the Bamboo Ink Plus that I was using with my old computer was compatible with the new one. When I finished setting up the new laptop, I went to add the pen as a Bluetooth device, and it paired, but it wouldn't stay connected, or register on the screen when I would try to use it. After being on the phone with the Geek Squad for over an hour and having them go through my laptop to see if I missed anything remotely, I was told that it was fixed and that it should work in about half an hour after a restart. Which I did, and the pen still wouldn't stay connected. So I drove to Best Buy to have someone take a physical look at it. After several people tried to go through it and get the pen to stay connected, I was told that it was a Bluetooth issue and that the computer was defective. They told me that they have never had this happen before, and that they have set up other Bamboo pens on this same model without any issues. Can someone please tell me how to fix this? I believe that it is some kind of driver issue because when I go to do self diagnostics in the HP support or on HP.com, the recognition software doesn't work either, even if I download the .exe file like it says to do. Please Help! I'm becoming very frustrated and would just like to know if this pen will work or not, so I can buy a different brand if need be. Thank you!

Hi @Liluna,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Certainly, I can help you with that! To get a Bluetooth pen to work with your HP Envy 17.3 Inch Laptop PC, you'll need to follow these general steps.

Check Compatibility: Ensure that your Bluetooth pen is compatible with your HP Envy laptop. Most modern laptops support Bluetooth, but it's essential to verify that your specific pen model is compatible with your laptop.

Charge or Insert Batteries: If your Bluetooth pen has a rechargeable battery, make sure it's charged. If it uses disposable batteries, ensure they are fresh and correctly inserted.

Enable Bluetooth on Your Laptop:

  • Go to your laptop's Settings or Control Panel.
  • Look for "Bluetooth" or "Bluetooth and other devices" settings.
  • Turn on Bluetooth if it's not already enabled.

Put the Pen in Pairing Mode: Your Bluetooth pen needs to be discoverable by your laptop. Check the pen's manual for specific instructions, but typically, you may need to press and hold a button on the pen or follow a specific sequence of button presses to put it in pairing mode. This makes it visible to other devices.

Pair the Pen with Your Laptop:

  • On your laptop, within the Bluetooth settings, click on the option to add a new device or "Pair a new device."
  • Your laptop should start searching for nearby Bluetooth devices.
  • When your pen appears in the list of available devices, click on it to start the pairing process.

Follow On-Screen Instructions: Your laptop may prompt you to confirm the pairing by entering a code or tapping the pen on the screen. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing process.

Test the Pen: After successful pairing, you should be able to use the Bluetooth pen. Try writing or drawing on your laptop's screen or interacting with any compatible apps.

Adjust Pen Settings (Optional): Depending on your laptop and the pen, you may have the option to customize pen settings. These settings can include adjusting sensitivity, button functions, and more. You can usually find these settings in your laptop's control panel or system settings.

Update Drivers (If Necessary): If the pen doesn't work correctly, you may need to update or install drivers. Go to the HP support website and search for the specific model of your laptop. Look for pen-related drivers and install them if needed.

Troubleshoot: If you encounter any issues, such as the pen not responding or disconnecting frequently, you may need to troubleshoot the Bluetooth connection or check for firmware updates for the pen.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
