Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 11

For some reason, I cannot adjust the brightness in my laptop from either the keyboard or settings. This started happening about a week ago and I restarted the computer and updated everything and it still has that same problem.

Hi @Melanie02,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with brightness adjustment issues on your Spectre X360 running Windows 11. Here are several steps you can try to resolve the problem:

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the "Display adapters" section, right-click on your graphics driver, and select "Update driver."
  • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" and follow the instructions. If Windows doesn't find a new driver, you can visit the manufacturer's website (such as Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA) to download and install the latest driver manually.

Enable Adaptive Brightness:

  • Go to Settings > System > Display.
  • Under Brightness and color, find the "Change brightness automatically when lighting changes" option and turn it on, if available.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Click "Check for updates" and install any available updates.

Use Microsoft's Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter:

  • Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
  • Find and run the troubleshooter for "Hardware and Devices" to check for hardware issues.

Modify Registry Settings (Advanced, proceed with caution):

  • Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000
  • Find and double-click on the "FeatureTestControl" value and change its data to f048 (if it's set differently). Be cautious and ensure to back up your registry before making any changes.

Restore Power Plans to Default:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  • Type powercfg -restoredefaultschemes and press Enter.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
