Spectre x360 2in1 (13-W0023dx)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop (13-W0023dx) can see the Microsoft wireless display adapter as a device under "CONNECT" but when I try to connect to it, it says "failed to connect" in yellow. I've tried all the troubleshooting steps including disabling antivirus/firewall, update all drivers/firmware, reboot/reset/reinstall..etc. I know it's not the ms wireless display adapter since I can connect to it fine using other PCs. I'm only having trouble connecting with spectre x360 (13-W0023dx). Anyone else having similar issue?

I think your machine is an HP 13-W023dx not HP 13-W0023dx

       https://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c05348992

it only has  802.11ac (2x2) and Bluetooth® 4.0 combo which does not support WiDi. Machines which support WiDi have more information about wireless cards on their specifications.

Spectre x360 2 in 1 (late 2016)  does not support wifi/miracast? I check compatibility information on microsoft support site and it says the laptop is widi/miracast ready if I go to "Connect" in action center of windows 10 and I have an option to connect to other wireless devices, which I do. In fact, the laptop sees the MS wireless display adapter as an option to connect from the laptop. But when i choose the MS wireless display adapter, it tries to connect and even shows on my TV screen (where the adapter is plugged) as trying to connect with my laptop but eventually fails with "couldn't connect".

Doesn't the fact that the adapter shows up on my wireless display connect screen on the laptop and how there's actually communcation to the adapter as TV also says "trying to connect to <my laptop name> shows that the laptop is widi/miracast compatable? Thank you in advance for the help/clarification. I'm not convinced that the laptop does is not widi/miracast compatible based on the information from microsoft support, but I suppose it's possible that the laptop isn't compatible even if it shows up and communicates with the adapter.

Ok, your machine uses Intel 8265NGW card which does support Miracast. By some reasons which I don't know why HP did not put to its specs as normal.

Please try the following setup:

I current get stuck at step two part 5 where the laptop trys to connect while even the TV shows "connecting" and then laptop says "couldn't connect" after 30sec or so.  I've tried all the troubleshooting steps. Per spec of the laptop, I can't see why the widi/miracast/wirelessdisplay function won't connect successfully to MS wireless display adapter when all other PCs I have connect just fine. I'm still hoping that it's matter of software/driver install that HP left out.

I've the exact same problem with HP ProBook 650 with Win 10 and a Samsung TV MU7000.

Any suggestion?

Thanks!!

hp spectre 360, and nicrosoft wireless display adapter (first generation)

I too am haveing same issue.  Computer will not connect to Wireless Display ADApter (WDA).  I have followed everyne's support steps - firewall, REmove WDA, re-ADD WDA, power off, power on, check for updates.

it DID work prior to teh Fall creator's update.

it is NOT the WDA - the WDA works with SAmsung Tab-Pro-S, and with my android devices

it is not the computer - the computer DOES project when going through Roku 3600, and Roku stick+ (the new 3810).

the computer projects tthrough samsung TV

all of these are wireless display connections

it is something between HP, possibly creator's update, and WDA specifically.  something is not linking corectly with something else.

same scenario as evreyone else.  plug device in, see it on monitor, READY TO CONNECT.  I go to computer, select CONNECT TO WIRELESS DISPLAY device, see my multiple devices, try connecteting to the WDA, it shows on TV as "connecting to computer",  the WDA light blinks slowly;  then the monitor removes the "connecting to computer" notice, then reverts to READY TO CONNECT, and computr states "failed to connect"

Again, thhis worked as of about 1 month ago, i had not turned computer on till recently to do the fall creator's update, and then the WDA-computer incompatibility started.

any help appreciated

anything that anyone wants me to test, i can do, but NOT to go back through the troubleshooting that I've tried repeatedly already.

Intel 5500 (or something) graphics card states "latest driver is installed".

thanks

any update on this, why teh MICROSOFT DISPLAY ADAPTER won't work, but other adapters (roku, samsung TV, etc) do work?

especially when it worked about 3 months ago (the microsoft display adapter?)

it is not the adapter, because it work s on other non-hp miracast devices

I believe every time Intel updates the drivers, you need to also Update the WiDi Adapter.  I would update the adapter before applying any new Display driver updates.
