Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After 8/10/20 Windows update, I can no longer disable touchpad input when using external mouse.  The option isn't available.  I tried installing an older HP touchpad driver using automatic download and install, but it failed.  Same (newest) version shows installed: 21.2.27.1.  Anyone have a fix for this?

Hi @rburton6

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the Touchpad issue.

Please try these steps -

1) Right click on the start or Windows icon and open the "Device Manager".

2) Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices".

3) Right click TouchPad and then click on uninstall and restart the computer.

Also, try updating the computer -

1) In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
2) Expand the Imaging Devices.
3) Right-click on the HP Webcam and select Uninstall.
4) Confirm the uninstallation.
5) Restart the computer to reinstall the Webcam driver.

Try updating your computer -

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Download and install the BIOS from this link.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for the reply

Your first option- I don't want to uninstall forever.  Sometimes I'm away from the desk.

2nd option- you have me uninstalling the webcam? I'm thinking that's not what you meant?  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the touchpad version.  As indicated in my original post, it somehow reinstalled the latest version instead of an older one I wanted, that was there before the update.

3rd:  I've installed windows updates, and I'm up to date.  That's actually what caused the problem.

4th- I've checked for HP Support updates, and installed.  But it still doesn't work.

The last option- installing the BIOS- will this affect other things with my computer?  Is it part of the last solution you posted, or a standalone?

It seems there should be a way to successfully install a previous touchpad driver that will give the option to disable it when external mouse is detected?
