I have a HP Omnibook X connected to a HP G5 docker, with three identical monitors attached via 2 x DP and 1 x HDMI, and I cannot get a third monitor to appear.

Windows System | Display only shows two monitors.

Switching cables does switch monitors

Pulling the plug on one of the working monitors does cause the other one to come active and display.

With these tests it shows that there is nothing wrong with cables, monitors or ports.

...Oh, and I have the laptop lid closed and the 'do nothing' option set on that action.

What is your computer ? It should have same ports as the following machine

             HP OmniBook X 14 inch Laptop 14-fe0000QU

It has following ports

  • 1 USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4a, HP Sleep and Charge),
  • 1 USB Type-C® 40Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4a, HP Sleep and Charge)  (Thunderbold)

HP USB-C G5 dock gives

I tested my HP USB-C G5 (5TW10AA) on few machines from HP, Dell ans Lenovo and got 3 monitors as highlighted above.

What are your monitors ? I used all 5 FHD monitors to test, I don't have higher resolution monitors and what is your Fock G5 (HP has 3 or 4 different USB-C G5 docks).

Correct. It is why I bought this laptop and this docker. However, it does not answer why I can't get three (FHD) monitors to work.

Please try USB-C port (not Thunderbolt™ 4 port). I actually tested on machines with Thunderbolt™ 3 (HP 840 G5),  Thunderbolt™ 4 (HP zBook Firefly 14 G10) and USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4a, HP Sleep and Charge (HP Envy 15-ee0047nr ...) they all worked. Please update firmware, driver, hope this helps

Driver on my dock is very old

I don't know why my dock works but not yours.

Thank you for the advice. I switched between each port, but it made no difference. I also checked for updates to the drivers, and everything else that I could think of.

I think I have done everything that makes sense, and I am just going to run with two screen, and put up with it.
