Recently I received the HP ZBook Fury 16 G10. The build in dock in the screen i am using (HP E45C G5) does not provide enough power to charge my laptop. So I got the Thunderbolt Dock G4 280W.
At first use it seemed to work fine, but after a while my 2 screens connected to the dock started to black out for a second or 3 (one at a time, not together). After that is just resumes working but this problem occurs a few times a day.
To try to resolve this issue, I wanted to upgrade the firmware on the dock. I downloaded the firmware from the official HP site (1.5.22.0 Rev.1), but the installer crashes on discovering the product.
I get the following error in the Event Viewer:
Faulting application name: HPFirmwareInstaller.exe, version: 2.2.18.1, time stamp: 0x638a485a
Faulting module name: HPUSBDock64.dll, version: 1.0.22.1, time stamp: 0x609d825c

After that, i tried to install the firmware using HP Support Assistant, where it also crashes, but i get this error in the Support Assistant:
HP Thunderbolt Dock G4 - Firmware (Failure Code: -1073740791)
I tried installing the firmware before checking for other updates, but after opening installing through the HP Support Assistant I installed all other updates and tried again, but this also didn't work.
All Windows updates are installed and of course I tried rebooting the computer.
Does anyone have any idea why the firmware does not want to be updated? Also, maybe anyone can tell me to resolve the blacking out problem? If that's resolved, the firmware update is not my top priority anymore...
