I have the Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics driver installed at version 30.0.101.3111. I've been downloading sp147060.exe in order to install version 31.0.101.2121 Rev.A. It seems to run fine and shows no errors, but Windows still shows the old driver version.
If I autodetect required drivers, the HP website does not say I need to update. But I'm having issues with an external display and my docking station manufacturer says I need the new drivers. I noticed Intel has an installer but I haven't run it as they recommend using laptop manufacturer's installer instead.
Can you please help me understand what I need to do to be on the latest graphics drivers?

You're very welcome.
If your notebook only has the onboard Intel graphics, you should also be able to use the latest graphics driver directly from the Intel website.

Before installing the driver, create a system restore point so that you can roll back to the current graphics driver you have installed, just in case the updated driver does not work to your expectations.

If your PC only has the onboard Intel graphics adapter, see if this works:
First, create a system restore point so that you can roll back to the current graphics driver you have installed, just in case the updated driver does not work to your expectations.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4027538/windows-create-a-system-restore-point
Next, go to the device manager, click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category.
Click on the Intel HD graphics adapter listed there.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.
Select the 'Browse my computer for drivers' option, and then at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
Click on Have Disk and browse to: C:\SWSetup\sp147060>dhcu_2121>iigd_dch (setup information file), click Next, and the driver should install.
Be patient, as it can take a few minutes for the driver to completely install.
When the installation is finished, restart the PC.
To update the Intel HDMI audio driver to the latest version, go to the device manager, click to expand the Sound, video and game controllers device manager category.
Click on the Intel HD audio device listed there. Click on the driver tab. Click on Update driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the C:\SWSetup\sp147060>dhcu_2121 folder.
Make sure that the Include subfolders box is checked, and the driver will install.
Then restart the PC.

Thanks for this! But when I click Next, the driver does not install directly. Instead I get a list of devices. None quite match what I have now (the Iris(R) XE as mentioned in the question). I tried picking other options but none seem to work right.
