I want to game on my laptop with an external monitor while lid is closed. The area above the keyboard does get pretty hot while gaming, so my question is if that will be a problem or not?

Hi @Tapped46,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

While excessive heat generated during gaming can potentially damage a laptop, it is unlikely to affect the screen specifically when the lid is closed. Laptop screens are designed to withstand normal operating temperatures and are not typically affected by the heat generated by the internal components.

However, it's important to ensure proper ventilation and cooling for your laptop to prevent overheating. If the laptop is subjected to prolonged, intense heat without proper airflow, it can lead to overheating of internal components such as the CPU and GPU. Overheating can cause performance issues, system instability, or even hardware damage in extreme cases.

To mitigate the risk of overheating, make sure the laptop's vents are clear of dust and debris, and use the laptop on a flat surface that allows for adequate airflow. You can also consider using a laptop cooling pad or an external fan to further enhance cooling.

If you notice any unusual behavior, such as the laptop shutting down unexpectedly or the fans running at high speeds continuously, it may be a sign of overheating. In such cases, it's advisable to take a break from gaming and allow the laptop to cool down before using it again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
