G'day,
I have a ProBook 4740s laptop running WIn7 Pro 64 bit, and a couple of weeks ago there was a notification in the HP Support Assistant app. It was updated drivers for the on board Intel HD graphics card. I don't normally use it, but thought "What the heck, may as well get it".
I installed it, only after that in Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox and Waterfox, I could not play a video (any format). All I got was a green rectangle overlaying it. I could hear the audio, but that was all.
I put up with it for a while, but then talking to people it was suggested to check for updated video drivers. So, I tried the SP57199 package only it first uninstalled what was there, both the drivers and the Catalyst Control Centre. The new drivers were supposedly installed, but the CCC was gone.
So I went to the AMD web site and there were supposedly updated drivers and the CCC, however when I do it, all I get is it going through the process, but no CCC, and what I see in the program list in the Start Menu is the AMD Problem Report Wizard and in Programs and Features in Control Panel all I see is the AMD Install Manager. I dare not try and uninstall it, I will consistently get a BSOD and crash.
In Device Manager the AMD Radeon HD 7650M is nowhere to be seen and apart from the Intel HD 4000 display adaptor, all I get is a standard VGA adaptor with a yellow exclamation mark triange with a message telling me there are no drivers for it.
All I want is my system back. Where can I get the Catalyst Control Centre, and where/how can I get the vodeo system back.
Any help or tips would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Just thought I'd let you know how things have progressed.
I had many sleepless nights over this (literally) as I tried to work out what I was going to do. I had to locate software licence keys, and media and prepare a plan so that there was no data or application loss. Fortunately I have a good backup system with an automatic backup of data and application settings performed every night between 3 am and 7 am. This makes sure that there is at least one additional copy of critical files on separate media.
Then just to make things interesting, we have a qaurterly Business Activity Statement to be prepared for the Taxation Office, and of course, I would get an AppCrash report everytime I tried to run my accounting software. Also a client wanted a drawing prepared for a Development Application, and AutoCAD also failed with an AppCrash, and they wanted another invoice finalised only the data was held in an Excel file and an Access database and generated an AppCrash..
I had pretty well resigned myself to having to use the dreaded Recovery DVD and return things to a factory reset, only even here, there was no Windows Product Key on the underside of the laptop and the HP box contained nothing either, although I was assured all would be OK.
I was waiting on the last e-mail from one of the programs that was licenced and to get them to reset my account on the activation server (the e-mail client and Waterfox, and Notepad were tthree applications that did not fail with an AppCrash) and was trying to figure out what to do. So far I had concentrated on the issue being an AMD Catalyst/Driver software as that was the video system used. I thought I'd look into the Intel HD Graphics 4000 side of things and went to the Intel web site. I located a possible update, only when I tried to install it, it said that my system had an OEM custom implementation and to try the manufacture.
I went to the HP support side and found the drivers for the video system. The one listed for the Intel video hardware was the same one thathad caused the problem, so when I looked it up previously, I ignored it. This time I saw something about some more options, and when I picked that, there was another version of the software. It was Rev B dated 2014 and the newer one that was the culprit was Rev W dated 2018. Resisting the urge to keep having the latest, I downloaded the oldest (sp70000.exe) and then, no point in crossing fingers, installed it. It loaded despite installing an older version over a newer one, and no hint of AppCrash, completed fully and asked me to reboot. I let it take its time and did not rush anything. The system started up and so far (touch wood) all is working as though nothing has happened.
It was me thinking that the Intel installation had caused a file in the AMD installationto be corrupted and so that's where I concentrated my efforts thinking a reinstallation of the AMD system would/should correct it. I had used the Device Manager and the Application/Drover Recovery DVD to see if the original drivers for both the AMD and Intel systems could be loaded, but kept getting told that newer drivers had been installed.
So thankfuly, all is OK.
If anyone is interested, I did a copy and paste of some of the AppCrash reports to a text file and can send it to you.
