Hi @Liv55,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Extending a screen from a Windows laptop to an iMac using an HDMI connection can be challenging, as iMacs generally don't support HDMI input directly. However, there are a few solutions you could try.

Check for Target Display Mode (TDM):

  • Some older iMacs (models from 2009 to mid-2014) support Target Display Mode, which allows them to be used as external monitors. To use TDM, you need to press Command (⌘) + F2 on the iMac keyboard after connecting the HDMI cable. Note that newer iMacs do not support this feature.

Ensure Correct HDMI Port Use:

  • Make sure the HDMI cable is properly connected to the HDMI output port on your Windows laptop and the HDMI input on the iMac via the adapter. Verify the connections and ensure that the multi-adapter is functioning correctly.

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • On your Windows laptop, update the graphics drivers to the latest version. You can do this through Device Manager or by visiting the manufacturer's website.

Check Display Settings:

  • On your Windows laptop, go to Settings > System > Display. Click Detect under the Multiple displays section to see if the iMac is recognized.
  • If the display is not detected, try using the Project feature by pressing Windows key + P and selecting Extend.

Alternative Connection Methods:

  • If HDMI is not working, try using a different method to extend the screen. For example, using a USB-C to USB-C or Thunderbolt cable if both devices support it.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please provide more details about the specific models of your HP laptop and iMac, as well as the exact setup you are using.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
