HP Spectre x360 - 15-ch004no
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop tells me that there are updates for the display driver. I click on the message and a window "Radeon RX Vega..." opens up (see the picture below).Radeon.JPG

The system tells me I got version 17.xxxx installed (downloaded from the hp-support) but there is a version 18.x that is recommended.

I choose to upgrade to the recommended version but the only thing that happens is that I get a message (in Swedish) that says "Choosen driver didn't identify the current configuration".

Am I stuck with version 17.x for ever or what should I do?

Wow! This was a new support experience, I´'ve never ever got such an arrogant answer from a support agent. Having a bad day?

And yes, I know that I don't need to run the latest drivers but the problem is how to know if my system needs an update? Why do HP deliver the laptop with Intel software that tells me to update the driver if I shouldn't trust that software? Should I also turn of the Windows-update function from Microsoft and only download updates from the HP-support site?

Don't bother to answer, I'll get help elsewhere. Next time I buy a laptop it will be a Dell or Lenovo.

Welcome to HP Forums,

Let's get straight to it, shall we..

The interesting question is, why do you want to update the video card driver? Do you have any current issues with the device that requires a fix?

Did you know that you don't have to install updates unless you or your system needs it?

While you ponder on that, HP recommends using the HP Website or the HP SUPPORT ASSISTANT to obtain the drivers designed for your device,

considering the drivers from the Intel website could be generic and are not designed for your device per say, that could be a reason it isn't working.

For latest updates designed for your device: Click here to access the hp website.

Keep me posted, as I (Or a trusted colleague) shall follow-up on this case to ensure the concern has been addressed,

And your device is up and running again, only in case you don't get back to us, first!

that said, If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Thank you for responding, we seem to have got in on the wrong foot!

Oh! I'm not sure why or how it seemed arrogant to you, I assure you that was not the intention, I simply was trying to make sense of your question while asking my own, so that we can help each other and resolve the issue faster.

Also, in my opinion, the best way to install updates on an HP device is by using the HP Support Assistant for both windows & Intel drivers among others.

I hope that helps!

Have a great day!
