I am having the same issue with the black screen. The model number on my HP Chromebook is 7265NGW. I have plugged the Chromebook into my TV and I am getting a screen. However nothing comes up on the actual Chromebook screen. I did do a powerwash and that did not resolve the issue either. Is there anything else that I can do to get the screen to turn on?

Appreciate you trying the steps. This looks like a hardware issue, I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer.
