Chromebook screen frame breaking

When I go to open my Chromebook, the lower right-hand frame separates with a popping sound and exposes a bit of what's underneath. So far this has not interfered with the operation of the machine. Can it be fixed before I have a system failure or is it a lost cause? Is it something I can fix myself? Thanks.
