HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop - 16-a0032dx
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello guys…please I have a question and I’m very confused right now… I trust a professional to give me an answer

so I have an hp pavilion gaming 16 144hz gtx 1660ti max q intel core i5 10th gen but I have terrible ghosting not just while playing games even in the desktop homscreen, thank goodness for 144hz cause 60hz is totally unusable so much so that when I even move my mouse cursor on the desktop homescreen there’s a terrible black ghosting trail…I have to put it to 144hz for it to be manageable but the ghosting on 144hz is still very noticeable in some games,my friend has a 60hz pavillion gaming 15 laptop and doesn’t even get as much ghosting as I do on 144hz….trust me I’ve tried everything to fix it,I’ve tried updating all drivers,I’ve tried downgrading display drivers as well, even upgraded my laptop from win 10 to 11 cause of this issue yet the same thing and the thing is,there’s no ghosting when I plugged to an external monitor and my TV

now the question I need an answer to is should I spend the money in replacing the screen because it’s quite pricy in my country or could it be another hardware issue

Hi @Goat_Milk

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

I see that you are facing screen ghosting-related issues on your system. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.

  • May I know from when are you facing this issue?
  • Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?
  • Do you see anything on the screen when you connect it to an external monitor or a TV?

Try few steps recommended below and check if it helps.

Ensure that your computer is connected to the Internet.

Right-click the Windows desktop background (not the Start screen) and select NVIDIA Control Panel.

Figure : NVIDIA Control Panel selection

  1. Windows desktop menu with NVIDIA Control Panel selection highlighted

From the left menu, select Manage 3D settings, and then click Manage updates.

Figure : Manage updates

  1. NVIDIA Control Panel showing the Manage Updates window called out.

Click Get updates to ensure that your computer has all of the latest software and game profiles. When finished, click the close button to close this Window.

Click the Program Settings tab.

Click the drop down selection under "1. Select a program to customize:" and select the name of software in the list of profiles.

   NOTE:

If the name of software is not in the list, click Add and browse to the software application's executable file (exe) to add the program to the list. Most software exe files can be find at the path C:\Program Files (x86) or C:\Program Files. Look for a directory that shares the same name as the software or software company at this path.

Once a software program is selected, select the preferred graphics processor setting that you would like to use (setting number 2).

Select High-Performance if you want to maximize the visual appearance and speed for that software program at the cost of using more battery power.

Select Integrated graphics if you want to use less battery power while using the software program, at the cost of an improved graphics experience.

Select Use Global Setting if you want to let NVIDIA manage the power and display settings - to get the most out of both battery and visual effects.

Click Apply and close the Control Panel window when finished.

   NOTE:

If you are having problems with a particular game title, consult the game manufacturer's support web site for assistance.

Also, try running a system diagnostics test on your PC and check if the hardware components on your PC are functioning correctly.

Refer to this article to know more information about running system diagnostics on your PC.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for replying

first this laptop was given to me by a close friend who used it a while ago so I noticed as soon as I started taking on it

second I’m not sure whether he made changes to the hardware that’s the issue now

and it’s not with just one game it’s with all of the the games especially games that don’t give me the option to switch to 144hz so I’m stuck with 60hz with very bad ghosting

And no I don’t see this issue when on an external monitor
