HP ENVY x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-eu0000 (267R4AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My computer is a hp envy x360. Im using it and all of a sudden the fan starts to run and the screen goes black and the computer shuts down. The power on button goes dark and then it starts up automatically and does the same thing again and again till it does not start up again. Ive run diagnostics with no error. When this acting up occurs i dont get an error..Sometime i have to move the computer several times and all of a sudden it will start for a few minutes and it will go bezerk again..Sometimes it will run smoothly for a couple of days and start acting up again...The computer is barely 2 years old..Never have drop it..Took it to a shop and the diagnosed it was the motherboard which I had to change...Wasted money...a month into it it started to act again...

Anyone with good ideas what maybe going on?

Hi @RafaelD1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a hardware issue with your HP Envy x360 laptop. The symptoms you described, such as the fan running at high speed, the screen going black, and the computer shutting down and restarting, could be indicative of various underlying problems. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check for Overheating: Overheating can cause laptops to behave erratically. Ensure that the laptop's vents are not blocked, and the cooling fan is working correctly. You can use compressed air to clean out any dust or debris that may have accumulated inside the laptop.
  • Update Drivers and BIOS: Make sure all your device drivers and the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) are up-to-date. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause system instability.
  • Check for Software Issues: Malware or corrupt system files can lead to such problems. Run a full system scan for malware and perform a Windows repair or reinstallation if necessary.
  • Memory and Storage Test: Use built-in Windows tools like Windows Memory Diagnostic to check for RAM issues and CHKDSK to scan for and repair any disk errors.
  • Check for Loose Connections: Sometimes, internal hardware components like RAM or hard drive cables can become loose. If you're comfortable, you can open the laptop and reseat these components.
  • Battery Issues: If your laptop's battery is old and not functioning correctly, it could cause unexpected shutdowns. Try running the laptop without the battery (if possible) to see if the issue persists.
  • Power Supply: Ensure that your laptop's power adapter is functioning correctly. A faulty adapter can cause power-related issues.
  • Graphics Card Issues: If your laptop has a dedicated graphics card, it could be overheating or failing. You may need to reseat or replace it.
  • Hardware Diagnostics: Run more comprehensive hardware diagnostics. HP laptops typically have a built-in hardware diagnostics tool. You can access it during the boot process by pressing a specific key (usually F2 or F12) or through HP Support Assistant.

Since your laptop sometimes runs smoothly for a while before acting up again, it could be an intermittent hardware issue that's challenging to diagnose without a hands-on inspection.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Aldene: Thanks for your suggestions. I have run diagonostics when the cmp lets me , i have opened p the laptop but dont see loose cables. I think it has to do with the mecanism of the screen...When the cmp shuts down  I close the laptop and open it again and power on the cmp...It will last about 5 minutes and then shuts down again. .....weird computer..
