Recently I tried my computer camera and when it opened up all I get is a very dark screen and with two buttons one for the camera and one for the video, although I can't see what I am taking, the camera does work and the picture is clear when I bring it up although my face is not central in the screen it is in the bottom half of the picture.
I cannot see any " Settings button " so I can do no adjustment to the screen regarding size, brightness ect.
I uninstalled the the driver in device manager and after it reinstalled I tried again but no luck I then tried ti uninstall the camera but it would not uninstall I may add I am not computer literate and these I tried after read support forums and thats as far as I dare go on my own.
I also loaded "Cyberlink youcam 5" and that screen works fine and I don't have Skipe so cannot try that and when I purchased the computer it had windows 10 but I did not like this so went back to windows 8.1.
Hope this info helps someone to help me.

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues related to webcam on your HP notebook. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?
Did it happen after a software upgrade or Windows update?
Have you tried to take a picture?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Let's start off by updating the Bios on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.
Next thing, I would suggest here is to check the settings - Open YouCam, click on the picture quality button, then click Advanced, then at the top of that window click Camera Controls. Check the Auto box next to Exposure.
If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to try these steps here:
The webcam works, but the image is too dark or the video is choppy.
If the image is too dark, take the following actions:
-
Make sure your video recording environment has good lighting.
-
Change the image quality, brightness, contrast, and other adjustments in the webcam software.
To resolve problems with choppy playback, take the following actions:
-
Reduce the size of the video image in the webcam software.
-
Use a high-speed Internet connection.
-
Do not use other high-speed USB devices while using the webcam.
To troubleshoot other video quality problems, refer to one of the following HP support documents:
-
Improper Lighting and Positioning Can Cause Problems with Webcam Facial-Tracking Function
-
Webcam Remains in Black and White Mode In Normal Ambient Light Environment
For more assistance, please follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP PCs - Webcam Troubleshooting (Windows 10, 😎
Alternatively, you can go through this link: HP Notebook PCs - Testing a Webcam Using YouCam (Windows 10, 8, 7)
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Eagerly waiting for your response!
I hope you have a good day ahead,
And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Hi jeet_singh
Thank you for your reply and sorry for not replying sooner but I did not get a notification of your reply,I could not answer your first two questions as I have not tried the camera before so I do not know if it worked before I loaded any program or before I had any Updates.
It's like taking a picture with your eyes closed and when I see the arrow on the left of the screen I click on this and see what I have taken, the picture is good but at the bottom of the screen and if I want a picture central I have to look over the top of my screen.
I looked at updating my " Bios " but I feel that doing this is beyond my skills because if I make a mistake I could be in trouble.
I have checked my "Cyberlink youcam 5" and that takes good photo's and the settings seem ok but no Advanced button but I'm no expert and I have also done the HP test usinf]g the youcam test and this works so what is wrong.
