Hi All!!

I have a 49inch ultrawide monitor that I am trying to set up with my HP laptop.

The problem is that it is not detecting the ultrawide ratio and the screen is looking stretched when connected.

I am not sure if it is a problem with my laptops capabilities/limitations or how i am trying to configure it.

It is not being set up for gaming.

I actually have brought it mainly for work purposes but thought i would try hooking up home laptop too.

My work laptop is a HP but has a 13th Generation Intel® Core™ i7 processor but the same graphics(although i noticed the driver was a previous version) and my work laptop does not have any issues with the ratio, and sorted itself automatically when connected.

If you have an ideas, i would appreciate it.

My laptop details:

HP Laptop 17-cn3030TU (9T0L1PA)

13th Generation Intel® Core™ i5 processor

Intel® Iris® Xᶱ Graphics

Hi @CuriousCat99,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP laptop is not displaying the correct ultrawide ratio on your 49-inch monitor, and the screen looks stretched. Let’s go through some steps to address this issue:

Check Display Resolution Settings

Right-click on the desktop → Display settings.

Scroll to Display resolution and select the native resolution of your ultrawide monitor (e.g., 5120×1440 or 3840×1080 depending on your monitor).

Make sure Scaling is set to 100% or as recommended for your monitor.

Update Graphics Drivers

Go to Device Manager → Display adapters → Intel Iris Xᶱ Graphics → Update driver → Search automatically.

Alternatively, download the latest Intel Graphics driver from the Intel website or HP support page.

Old drivers may not detect ultrawide resolutions properly.

Check Monitor Settings

Some ultrawide monitors have an aspect ratio or scaling setting in their on-screen menu.

Ensure it is set to “Auto” or “1:1 pixel mapping” instead of stretching or zoom.

Use Correct Video Output / Cable

Ensure you are using a cable that supports high resolutions at the correct refresh rate:

DisplayPort or USB-C/Thunderbolt is preferred over HDMI if the laptop supports it.

Some HDMI ports (especially older versions) may limit the resolution or refresh rate.

Check Multiple Displays Settings

If using Duplicate mode, the resolution may default to the laptop’s screen.

Set it to Extend these displays mode to use the monitor’s native ultrawide resolution.

Test with Work Laptop Settings

Compare Intel Graphics Command Center settings between your work laptop and home laptop.

Check Custom Resolutions or Display Scaling options in the software; sometimes copying the exact settings solves the issue.

Optional: Custom Resolution

If the ultrawide resolution isn’t listed, use Intel Graphics Command Center → Display → Custom Resolutions to create the native resolution of the monitor.

Apply and test if it resolves the stretched display issue.

I hope this helps.
