HP EliteBook 840 G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to extend the display on my EliteBook 840 G4 to my other HP laptop (HP EliteBook 840 G1) but I am having trouble connecting them. I should disclose that the first laptop is a work computer and the second is a personal computer that I am just trying to use as a monitor at the moment.

I have tried using the project function of Windows 10 to project and extend one display to the other but I keep getting an error message that the content from my work laptop cannot be projected onto the personal laptop. I have also tried connecting the two laptops via display port adapters for my HDMI cable as both have displayports. When I do this the work laptop does not detect the other display. Any recommendations or suggestions on how to connect the two devices?

This quick guide will show you how to enable SSH on your Windows 10 device so that you can connect to remote servers via the Command Prompt. Start out by visiting the OpenSSH for Windows download page (link opens in a new tab/window). The current version of OpenSSH for Windows is 7.2p1-1 - so look for the section titled OpenSSH 7.2p1-1 and download the file named setupssh-7.2p1-1.exe.

I use SSH and PuTTY to control a Raspberry Pi (even play MineCraft) headless on my W10 laptop.  So perhaps it may well suit your needs.
