Please help me.  I have been trying to connect an older HP 2011 x Monitor to my new hp Slim Desktop PC tower for a few days now.  I have used this monitor as my primary monitor for many years and I also have a secondary  Dell monitor that I am also using at the same time.  My issue is finding the correct connector for the Hp Monitor to connect to my Hp Tower.  The back of the monitor has a female/3 row connector opening, where a male connector should be placed and the back of the new tower has a 2/row male connector that does not align for connection.

The adaptors I have purchase so far have allowed for the Dell monitor to be connected through an adaptor to the new tower.  Is there also an adaptor or single cord with a male/3 row connection to a 2/ row female connection?

Thank you!

I have spoken with, visited in person and purchased a few adaptors, connectors

Hi @GrammyR,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a difference in the types of connectors between your older HP 2011x monitor and your new HP Slim Desktop PC tower. The connector on your HP 2011x monitor is likely a VGA connector, which is the older standard for connecting monitors, while your new HP Slim Desktop PC tower probably has HDMI or DisplayPort outputs, which are more common in modern computers.

To connect your older HP monitor to your new tower, you'll likely need an adapter or cable that converts the VGA signal from your monitor to HDMI or DisplayPort, whichever your tower supports. You mentioned you've already tried some adapters, but if those haven't worked, it's possible they were the wrong type or faulty.

For VGA to HDMI or DisplayPort conversion, you'll need an active adapter because VGA is an analog signal and HDMI/DisplayPort are digital signals. An active adapter will convert the analog VGA signal to a digital signal that your new tower can understand. Make sure to get one specifically labeled as "active" for this purpose.

Here's what you can do:

  • Identify the ports: Check what ports your new HP Slim Desktop PC tower has. Look for HDMI or DisplayPort outputs.
  • Purchase the correct adapter or cable: Once you've identified the ports, purchase an active VGA to HDMI or DisplayPort adapter or cable. Make sure it's compatible with your specific monitor and tower.
  • Connect the adapter or cable: Plug one end of the adapter or cable into your HP 2011x monitor's VGA port, and the other end into the HDMI or DisplayPort port on your new tower.
  • Configure your display settings: Once everything is connected, you may need to adjust your display settings in your computer's operating system to recognize and use the second monitor.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
